About Frank
Frank McMillan Nutt has lived in District 6 for 34 years and currently serves on County Council, representing District 6. Nutt, 64, is owner and President of The Nutt Corporation, a Home Building, Engineering and Development company that began in 1989.
Born in Waynesboro, Tennessee, Nutt graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1963. After graduation he worked as Assistant City Engineer in Johnson City, Tennessee until 1965. He lived in Spartanburg for five years during his employment with Lockwood Greene Engineers, Inc. and later was transferred to Texas. Nutt returned to Spartanburg County in 1972 when he began working as Manager for L.P. Pitts Development Corporation, a land development company for residential and commercial property. He worked for Pitts Development for 17 years before starting his own business, The Nutt Corporation, in 1989. In addition to his duties as County Councilman for District 6, he's also a part time farmer with approximately 70 head of beef cattle.
Nutt is active in numerous civic and professional organizations, receiving awards for outstanding service in both areas. Nutt was recognized as 1994 South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development, an award presented by Governor Carroll Campbell for Nutt's efforts in the economic development of Spartanburg County. In the professional realm, Nutt is a past-president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Spartanburg and was recognized as Home Builder of the year in 1987 and 1995. He has served, several times, on the Home Builders Association board of directors since 1986.
Working for the interests of Spartanburg County residents, Nutt has served as Chairman of the Middle Tyger Area Council for the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce; Vice-Chairman of Economic Development Standing Committee for the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce; Vice-Chairman of Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District; member of the Comprehensive Health Education Advisory Committee in Spartanburg County School District 5, and board member of the Spartanburg County Livestock Producers Association. In 1998 he was elected to represent District 6 on Spartanburg County Council. Since his election to County Council, Nutt has served on the Board of Directors for the Appalachian Council of Governments and the on the board of Infomentum, a decision support system for Upstate South Carolina (EDIS). As a member of County Council he has served as Chairman of the Public Works Committee and as a member of the Land Use Committee, the Economic Development Committee, and Public Safety and Judiciary Committee.
Nutt and his late wife, Sandra, were married for 40 years until her death in 2002. They have two children, Bryan, and Roger, and five grandchildren. Nutt has been married to Cathy Nutt since 2003.
Nutt served as an elder and bible class teacher for the Central Church of Christ for over 25 years.
